WHere do we begin?
The creative process.
Acting begins when an individual reads a script. The individual brings their life experiences to a text, and then they breathe life into something that was previously just text.
As creatives, we take steps to arrive at our presented product. Notice, I did not say finished product. Art is never finished, it is just another cultural artifact, a moment in time, something that is woven into the human experience. You can look at life in two ways, everything is theatre, or nothing is theatre. Below are two Alan Watts videos which elaborate on this theme. Alan Watts "The Universe is a Drama" and "Cosmic Theater"

Our Steps
In this class, we have defined the process with four steps. This process is cyclical in nature, and could be considered a closed circuit because it never ends.
Exploration is where the process begins. We take in our surroundings. We play in our environment. WE take note of how this feels. Usually, in class we would take time to explore the space, warm up, read, talk, and do all things creative for our exploration.
Elaboration is when we dissect our exploration and delve deeper into meaning making. In class, this would be the process of making a plan before our presentation. Often, we would pick one idea at this point and try to figure out how to develop it into something we can perform.
Expression is when we share our new discoveries and understandings through a creative forum. In class, this is when we would share our work.
Reflection is the step that leads to all things interesting and great. In other words, it is the step that leads you back to all the other steps. This is when you think about each step of the process and begin to make changes. This step is critical to the creative process, and we often revisit this place hundreds of times before we are ready to show an advanced version of a project. In class, usually this was done by journalling or posting to a discussion board on canvas.

Irl
When covid-19 hit, we were forced to take our classes on zoom. This was in interesting and fun challenge. We did not stop our pursuit of devising work together. Above you can see my monologue and its place with in our full class piece.
Covid-19 additionally impacted the creative process in the dance world. Above you can see the final project of my student piece. This required the same creative process steps as producing my acting monologue.
